Recreation: Biking

Bicycles may be ridden on all roads and most non-wilderness trails within the San Jacinto Mountains. Bicycles are NOT ALLOWED within the Wilderness, on the Pacific Crest Trail, or through Research Natural Areas (RNA's). Riding cross-country off established roads or trails is discouraged.

Remember Your Adventure Pass...
All visitors are required to display the Pass in their vehicle when parked on National Forest land for recreation purposes. The Pass is available in two forms: a daily pass for $5.00 and an annual pass good for one year from the month of purchase for $30.00. Passes are available at Forest Service offices, and a variety of local vendors. Call your nearest Forest Service office for the vendor nearest to you.

Bike Routes to Try...

  • Forest Falls route: Starting at the Mill Creek Ranger Station on Route 38 heading into the San Bernardino National Forest, riders gain more than 3,000 feet in elevation by the time they reach the turnaround point 10.4 miles later at the Big Falls Trailhead. The easy glide back down takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

  • Lake Gregory route: A short and sweet ride along the 2.5 mile perimeter of Lake Gregory that only takes about 10 minutes. Uncongested and beautiful.

  • Lytle Creek route: Starting at Glen Helen Regional Park on Devore Road, the course follows a relatively flat first 4.2 miles, then a gradual climb for 7.2 miles along Lytle Creek Road. It takes about an hour and 15 minutes to go up to the Apple White Campground and about 40 minutes to come back down.

  • Oak Glen route: This ride, which starts and finishes at the corner of Cherry Valley Boulevard and Beaumont Avenue in Cherry Valley, is part of the course ridden by the pros and top amateurs in the Redlands Bicycle Classic. It features one of the meanest climbs in the Inland Empire, a 2,100 foot ascent over 6.2 miles from Cherry Valley into Oak Glen.
