in a resort, you're sure to find something fun to do in the San Bernardino
area.
Featured Location: Downtown San Bernardino
Here are some locations to experience and explore in downtown
San Bernardino.
Court Street Square
A graceful oasis in the midst of bustling downtown, Court Street Square
is the perfect place to bring a picnic lunch and simply enjoy the atmosphere.
Court Street Square can also be reserved for private events such as
festivals, concerts and most outdoor activities.
In addition to Main Street's event program, downtown is
home to a number of other festivals throughout the year, not the least
of which is the annual Route
66 Rendezvous® which attracts over 500,000 classic car enthusiasts
from around the world the third weekend in September for 4 days and
3 nights of classic car nostalgia.
California Theatre of the Performing
Arts
The beautiful and historic California Theatre of the Performing
Arts was built in 1928 in opulent Spanish/Moorish style and is beautifully
preserved both inside and out. The theater serves as home to many San
Bernardino organizations including the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra,
under the direction of Maestro Carlo Ponti Jr, the Inland Dance Theater,
San Bernardino Valley Concert Association and Theater Arts International.
Theater Arts International is responsible for many of the lavish stage
productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Cats and Cirque du Soleil
while more classic theater such as Mark Twain and Of Mice and Men are
presented by other theatre organizations.
Take
note of the enormous outdoor mural on the east side of the building.
The mural was commissioned from renowned artist Kent Twitchell and recalls
Will Rogers' last stage performance, which took place at this very theater
in 1935, just before his death in a plane crash in Alaska.
From high brow to high tech, adjacent to the California
Theater is CinemaStar Luxury Theaters, San Bernardino Empire 20 movie
complex with the very latest in stadium seating, and the incredible
DHX sound in every auditorium.
